We lose Millions of Dollars, Billions of Dollars because we can't find and use stuff when we need them.
Clearly, THE KEY at the root of our losing so much is that either we or someone in charge of information hasn't helped things be "findable".
Far too many of us are lost when it comes to organizing ourselves.
Far, far, FAR too many of those who are unorganized merely give into to this malady as if it weren't permanent, unassailable, unconquerable.
Yet, can you imagine how much poorer the wo… Continue
Within a very short period of time in human history, many Billion Dollar businesses have been built:
Amazon
eBay
Facebook
Google
Linkedin
Microsoft
Oprah
Twitter (probably soon)
Yahoo
YouTube
The people who created these companies have seen an idea in their mind's eye, felt it in their soul, sketched it out in writing, dreamed about it in their sleep, and followed it through the processes of birthing, nurturing, and flourishing. As a result new businesses which help millions of people have bee… Continue

I'm not one with a strong appetite for people who are predominantly negative.
Unfortunately, sometimes, some people equate negativity with darkness.
However, the darkness I'm referring to in my post today is not a darkness of negativity.
Rather, it is a darkness of concentration, a darkness of meditation, a darkness of healing.
For most of human history, every plant we've eaten, every child we've given birth to - each and everyone - has required darkness - prior to being introduced to the sp… Continue

There are two great things I enjoyed practicing when I was younger: saxophone and hatha yoga.
Candidly, I started practicing hatha yoga so that it could help me become a better saxophonist. (Just 4 months before my 20th birthday, I started practicing yoga to improve my breathing capacity, digital flexibility, and digital strength)
Indeed, as I reflect on the deepest periods of practice, practice didn't feel like practice, at all!
Discipline wasn't something forced on me but, rather, something… Continue
Here's a question most people who know me probably would never expect me to ask: "Are food banks evil?"
Let me make a simple case:
If segregating the water fountains people used to drink from, if segregating the bathrooms, the swimming pools, schools, housing, churches, golf courses, restaurants and all other community areas people use is societally *evil* then, why is it that segregating the places where people get their food not evil, too?
Please think about these things:
1. Is it cost effe… Continue
The social worker said to me "It would be nice if she could just let go."
She said this - with the best of intentions - in reference to my mother who has been struggling with multiple myeloma since being diagnosed with it eight years ago.
Ordinarily this statement would not hav… Continue
In my coaching sessions, I make clear to those I'm working with that it's okay for them to vent to me - privately.
None of us can get through an entire life without venting - nor should we permit ourselves to be cornered into believing that a life without venting is even possible.
Yet, looked at from a certain perspective, venting represents energy - a LOT of energy!
During times when things are challenging us the most, we need the most energy we can get. And remember this: Human energy is fi… Continue

How do we NOT factor it in?
As we're factoring in the things which matter in professional
networking, how do we not factor in the cost of arrogance?
There's a startup that interests me - VERY MUCH.
In order to help that startup get off the ground, it will take the
best effort I can imagine.
Over the course of the past several months, I've frequently wanted to
roll up my sleeves to help that startup out. I've wanted to help
primarily because of the OUTSTANDING leader of the company. This
lead… Continue

hmmm...How can I say this?
I wish I could figure out a way to be mistake free but, after spending several decades contemplating that intriguing little human concept called perfection, I think it's safe to say that mistake-free is not something that's going to happen to me. (And there's a good chance it's not going to happen to you, either! But, you're still going to be, ok. Let me explain...)
When I was very, very, VERY young, I got bitten by the "Perfection Bug".
Whether the subject was gram… Continue
Of all the questions I've seen online networkers struggle with, this simple, WONDERFUL question seems to be the most difficult for most networkers to answer: "How can I help you?"
Indeed, some of the most vigorous networkers - even those with super-large networks - seem to stutter when it comes to answering this question.
Though I haven't yet done an indepth study on the rationale or the "why" of why this question is so challenging to answer, I'd like to offer a few thoughts on some general ca… Continue

January is normally a very potent month for invitations. You've probably already received a BUNCH of them just within the first 2-3 weeks of 2009!
As I'm noticing the uptick in invitations, I also notice another phenomenon: friends sending multiple invitations for me to join them - but - on the same site.
Let me explain.
If I have multiple email addresses from which I've written to a particular friend, if that friend joins a social media site and is asked by the site to "invite your friends",… Continue
Is this a new high or a new LOW in Social Media?
From Burger King's new social media site at http://whoppersacrifice.com/:
"What would you do for a free WHOPPER®? Now is the time to put your fare-weather web friendships to the test. Install WHOPPER® Sacrifice on your Facebook profile, and we'll reward you with a free flame-broiled WHOPPER® when you sacrifice 10 of your friends."
Um, I like an occasional good burger but, would YOU sacrifice 10 of your Facebook friends for a Burger King WHOPPER… Continue

Under the pressures of extended networking, personalities manifest in all manner of ways. Some of these personalities which emerge under stress can sometimes leave us flabbergasted.
Case in point: Earlier today, one of the frequent posters on My Linking Power Forum posted an "ultimatum" to Social Media owners that if he and his company were not featured, he would be posting a lot less - probably down to zero. In other words, feature him - or else...
Though he gave a slight justification for br… Continue
There are rich people who work less than we do.
There are rich people who know less than we do.
There are rich people who care less about the world than we do.
There are rich people who think more poorly than we do.
There are rich people who think more negatively than we do.
There are rich people who think less spiritually than we do.
There are rich people who love their families, friends, and countries less than we do.
There are rich people who are less healthy than we are.

While no one can guarantee success and while some times we just have to repeat and repeat and repeat our resolutions until they become "easy reality" for us, I choose to believe each of us can come closer to success if we begin all our professional relationships with our optimism set on "P.E.R.F.E.C.T. T.E.N."
"P.E.R.F.E.C.T. T.E.N." optimism represents the resolutions I offer those with whom I network and can best be expressed as:
Planning – A planned year is better than an unplanned one. And… Continue

Though I started the original Power Forum in 2005 to help members strengthen themselves in terms of professional networking, I could not end this year without offering my deepest thanks to those members who strengthened *ME* in 2008...
I'm still not quite prepared to thank all the members individually by name but, I count myself as being super-blessed to have encountered so many super people over the past 4 years - but, especially those super people who raised their hands to help during the mos… Continue
