trying to update all of my pages across Ning to have a consistent look & feel. Trying to find my personal brand. Not easy, but worth it!

Thanks for sharing this, Vincent!!

Thanks, Vincent, for answering my question and for the suggestion. I realize that I often add more detail than needed! I'll do my best to "keep it simple," and save more details for my own blog posts. :)

Bless you for being so incredibly sensitive Robin but, if I may, a key piece of advice: "keep it simple". Though you're correct in the details about the gaps in your "experience" as a Technical Writer, let's not over-analyze things. Claim the exp...

(I originally added this as a blog post about an hour ago, but then realized that it would fit better as a discussion post. Sorry for the duplication; I will attempt to delete the blog post after I post this.) This may seem elementary, but it elu...

Profile Information

About Me:
Professionally, I am/have been the following (or at least performed the duties, if I didn't officially have the title): Technical Writer/Editor, Trainer/Tutor, Translator/Translation Editor. I'm also an SAP enthusiast and have a *keen* interest in American Sign Language (ASL) and in foreign languages, which led to my dual Bachelor's in English and French. (I was 1 class short of a minor in Spanish.) I've also taken Elem. Italian, German 101, Hawaiian 101, Latin 101, and the equivalent of 3 years of ASL.)

Currently, I'm a stay-at-home mom of 3 kids under 6, which makes my personal time very precious! (Of course my kids are precious, too!) Because of this, it's rare that I can be online, let alone use the computer, without any interruptions, which makes following discussion threads, and even reading or sending email, quite interesting! After 2 years at home, I'm ready to generate some income on my own again; I'm open to full-time, part-time, or telecommuting opportunities in writing (technical or creative), SAP training, or SAP business analysis.

My professional specialties include:
-Technical writing and editing (some hardware, mostly software)
-Business writing
-Language translation (English/French, English/Spanish, some English/German)
-Proficiency in the following software: SAP R/3 (especially SD, MM, PP, & some FI & HR), Microsoft Office products; SharePoint; Lotus Notes; Clarity; Remedy; WebEx; Centra Symposium; RoboHelp; Help and Manual; FullShot; SnagIt
-Ability to learn new software products QUICKLY

In my "free" time--of which I do not have much lately, after childcare, obligatory housework, and sleeping--I enjoy: writing, reading, continuing my language and culture studies (refreshing and expanding my knowledge of languages that I've already studied, and learning new ones), watching MLB games, "24" and "Lost" on TV, and networking. I also volunteer on my high school's alumni board (I'm the editor of its newsletter), with the PTO at my oldest's school, and in my community.

I'm happy to connect with others; however, I'm interested in developing *relationships* with people in my network, not accumulating numbers (or simply being a number in someone else's network).

Please note: I am concentrating my professional networking here on MLPF and on LinkedIn and Twitter. If we are not already connected on one or more of these 3 sites, please feel free to invite me. At this time, I am NOT interested in joining other networking sites. Let's connect here or on LinkedIn and/or Twitter first! Thanks!

Do you connect with the same people in multiple online social networks?

As I was making quite a few new connections this morning on Twitter--with people in my hometown that I don't already know--and then reading an article re: automated direct messages (ADMs) via a link that Vincent posted--I realized that I have, for the most part, kept my professional and personal networks separate.

At this point, I spend most of my time in 4 networks online: LinkedIn, MVPF/MLPF, Facebook, and Twitter. For me, LinkedIn & MVPF are mostly professional/business-related; Facebook… Continue

I'm finally starting to 'get' Twitter!

Up until this weekend, I was still unsure of the whole Twitter 'thing', but I can say right now: I'm starting to understand the appeal of Twitter, and "I love Twitter!" One night recently, I even had a dream that I was logged on to Twitter, sending posts and responding to others! I've spent most of my time online, during the past 3 days, responding to the messages that I have new followers on Twitter, and trying to read some of their posts. (After caring for my kids and doing housework, I've had… Continue

Interesting Idea for Twitter

I just had a strange idea for Twitter, but I don't really know *how* to implement or *why*... There should be a reason to do it. Maybe someone can help me with that.

My idea: Have a virtual 'treasure hunt' through Twitter, going through different posts to find keywords or phrases, or even just different Twitter members... It would be fun, but again, it should be more than just 'fun.' There should be maybe a prize at the end, for the person who wins (finds all of the posts first). I don't know h… Continue

Yay; we saved some $!!

My husband just shared with me some GREAT news! He just met with our car insurance agent, & by updating our policy, we saved/will save $1600/year!!! I'm SO excited; that's the best news that I've had re: our finances in a LONG time! We were struggling to make our monthly payment, along with all of the other bills; there was no way that we could pay for 6 or 12 months of coverage at once. (I just had to use the last bit of money from a bank CD to make the most recent payment, and I can't with… Continue

WOW one busy Lady Here. Three children under 5.
I had two that close together and I guess one more wouldn't of
mattered that much more. But they are all different.
Bless you for all your good hard work.

Thanks a lot for connecting, Robin :-)

I'm truly delighted to be in touch with such an awesome linguist, such a cultured person.

Let's make sure we keep in touch!

Have a great week.

OK, I finally added a photo of myself. This is the only 1 (that I can access at the moment, since most of my digital photos are on the hard drive of my previous computer that doesn't work now) that is half-way decent. I have very few photos of myself, since most of the time, I'm the one behind the camera/taking the photos! I'll have to remedy that. Right now, my next career opportunity is my top priority!

I've been pretty busy off-line in August, and it's been a while since I've been here, and I'm still learning my way around, so to speak. (I'm lucky if I can keep up with the daily digest of messages from MLPF/MVPF.) Starting in Sept., I hope to have more opportunity to spend more time here.
