About Me:
In the summer of 2002, a new theatre production company devoted to the development and distribution of original plays for radio, the internet, and compact disc was created: Play it by Ear Productions. Audio theatre is probably the most challenging, and the most creative form of theatre. The audience member is no longer an observer to the world of the play, but an active participant, deciding how the protagonist looks, what the color of the sky is, or the size of the castle. Audio actors, writers and directors from all over America would participate in these productions, while the plays would be broadcast not only in America, but all over the world, making Play it by Ear that rarest of theatres: international. These productions benefit listeners of all ages: those new to radio theatre, to those who remember “old-time radio” but are seeking new stories for a new millenium.

AudioComics, LLC is the commercial extention of Play it by Ear, with co-producers and LinkedIn members Bill Dufris and Dan Bernard, where independent comic books, comic strips, graphic novels, sci-fi fiction, and horror will receive the audio drama treatment.

Lance is also an audio book narrator and voice-over artist.

Seeking sponsorship for a special presentation for broadcast legend NORMAN CORWIN

Hello again to those who read this blog regularly or semi-regularly:

The not-for-profit arts organization I work with, the National Audio Theatre Festivals, Inc., is planning a 100th birthday party and award ceremony for our advisory Board Member Norman Corwin in Los Angeles next spring.

Corwin is one of the last surviving directors and writers from the golden age of radio ("We Hold These Truths;" "On a Note of Triumph") and undoubtedly one of the greatest names in the history of broadcasting,… Continue

SOME UPDATES FOR YA:

To say I've been busy is an understatement. Recently my Thrilling Days company performed The Maltese Falcon. The following represents Play it by Ear's outlook for the next three months:

STARSTRUCK: A BENEFIT FOR "GENTLEMAN GENE" COLAN

On August 15, 2009 at 7:30pm, Play it by Ear Productions presents the off-Broadway science-fiction comedy Starstruck by Elaine Lee, Susan Norfleet Lee, and Dale Place, basis for the 1980's comic book series by Elaine Lee and Michael Wm… Continue

The Presidential Audio Theatre Library

My West Highland Terrier, Robbie Burns, must have known how much I wanted to see Obama's inauguration, because we did our "walkies" early. I won't add to what's already been written about that wonderful day beyond that it was one of those rare "where were you when" moments that wasn't associated with a moment of disaster.

It was equally wonderful watching the shrub - I mean, Bush - get on the chopper and fly far far away; and I don't know about the rest of you, but didn't Cheney in the wheelcha… Continue

The new year...and a few thoughts about fame and fortune (and money)

With 2008 just a memory, I am now able to objectively look at the year that was and see it as a year of false starts. Regardless of the date that you have stamped on your calendar, other people, circumstance, life in general will always be in the way. This show is set for this date, “someone is out sick for the month and I’m short on desk help.” Someone at an audio book publisher thinks this is exactly what the company needs, and once you’re ready to go, a committee of people higher than him say… Continue

A Request

2009. Be she be a damn sight better than 2008.

I want to start this first blog of the New Year not with joyous tidings, but with a request.

I hate form letters.

You hate form letters.

We all hate it when we put our heart and soul into something that has taken us blood and sweat to accomplish only to receive a form letter in kind.

I have a certain set of criteria for a blog. Blogs are, as blogger.com puts it, “push button publishing.” Some of my blogs on the Play it by Ear Productions blog h… Continue
