Angel Investing Revealed

Description
Experienced angel investors, Ron Conway, Founder of Angel Investors LP, and Mike Maples, Founder of Maples Investments, provide a rare look into the ins and outs of angel investing. Conway and Maples discuss how angel investors assess opportunities, provide assistance to entrepreneurs and transition start-ups to larger venture investments or exit. In addition, Conway and Maples provide advice to entrepreneurs about finding one's passion and developing that passion into new ventures, including insight into how much money to raise and how to manage that money after it is in the bank.

Based on my award-winning film, "The Sand Creek Massacre", I have attached Peter Coyote ("ET", "Erin Brokovich"), Academy Award winner Richard Lerner ("A Story of Healing") and five Emmy Award winners to my feature film, "Ghosts of Sand Creek." I am seeking $2.5 million for the film to attract a studio so that I can make a feature film about the Sand Creek Massacre. A business plan is available.

There are hundreds of Angel Groups around the country and if you are seeking funding for start-ups post your friends and family rounds, you can often find an interested ear in your local Angel group. Angel groups tend to invest in local startups so you will have many added advantages with your local angel group. You can Google Angel investing groups and find most of these. Angel groups generally have a rigorous vetting process which is demanding and time consuming, however the business shaping / strategic and tactical benefits of going through the process can be equal or greater to the actual equity investment. If you get through the initial screening and get to actually present your business plan/ case, in each of these Angel groups you will typically have 20-40 successful entrepreneurs offering their insights about your business plan and giving you a swot analysis of the opportunities and threats you will be facing ahead. If you are in South Florida, The Angel group that covers Tampa, Orlando, Palm Beach, Boca, Ft Lauderdale and Miami is New World Angels. Rhys Williams is the current President. There are several others in Florida. I was one of the founders of New World Angels however I am no longer active in the group, generally focusing on later stage investments for the past several years. Best to do your homework before approaching any Angel group. This is serious business and the members of the Angel groups are generally well connected and influential...so make sure that you are well prepared going in. There are lots of templates available on the web (or to purchase) to help you get your business plan in the best shape possible prior to presenting. Be prepared, dont waste your opportunity, the impression you set will affect other ventures you might want to start.

WrapMail currently has a PPM circulating so I figured I'd join this group to gain interest and connect.

Nightshade studios recently agreed to terms for films they produce or buy for theater distribution. The new agreement is for a guaranteed minimum of 1,400 theaters, which translates to over 2,000 screens. This agreement gives Nightshade Studios a distinctive edge over other independent studios.
Before I go on, let me introduce myself. My name is Rich Carlino, CEO of Nightshade Studios. We officially opened in may,2006. Initially, we offered a script reading service, which has brought us to owning 5 scripts and 1 with an option to buy . Out next initiative was to negotiate an agreement with theaters for the specific purpose of showing our movies. We have developed that very agreement with over 1,400 theaters at a cost that falls well within our budget, which brings us to the present. We are establishing a business presence internationally to further our growth for theaters, sales, distribution, and funding.
As an investment opportunity, our stock offering is not only for the venture capitalist, but also for every person who wished they had a chance to get involved in a business on the ground floor. If you are interested in finding out more, you can email me or go directly to our website. Thank you, Rich Carlino,CEO Nightshade Studios. email= richc@nsfilms.com or www.nsfilms.com

Let's have an old fashioned "barn-raising" to rebuild Vincent!

I have an idea on how to raise money quickly for Vincent. It requires 40 golfers who will work together to raise support for themselves to play in a golf marathon. I already have it all set up and we can do this together. We actually could pull this off in a very short time.

When I first told Vincent about the concept he was ecstatic. This was at the end of April. I knew that financially he was struggling at that time but he made it through the end of the month and into May.

We all love Vincent for who he is and how much his encouragement has touched our lives. The outpouring of concern today following his letter is a huge example of how much everyone here cares about Vincent.

On Monday night when I talked to Vincent, I suggested launching the golf tournament to raise funds. I asked Vincent how he felt $75,000 more or less would affect what he was doing in building his network. He said it would certainly help.

I know someone this last week responded to the flurry of Linkedin problems with a question to Vincent about him starting his own network. Vincent replied that if he had a couple of million $$$ he might just do that.

On Monday, I told Vincent that I felt it was perfect timing to let all of us who had been supported through the years by him and his ENCOURAGEMENT now support him and everyone could be part of that support in having the fundraising golf tournament to secure funds for him and his plan to build the network.

He asked that I send him something in writing so that he could read it. He also said that he had an excruciating headache and was going on to bed. We were to talk again on Tuesday night. That never happened. The phone calls and emails that I sent have gone unanswered.

I understand now why they were unanswered. In order to have this golf tournament it would have meant that he was saying he needed help and that was very hard for him to admit.

Will you help with this fundraising? Let's call it an old fashioned "BARN-RAISING" so that we can rebuild Vincent! This was done in all the olden days when a family lost their home to a fire. Vincent has lost not only his home to this fire; he has lost much more than that. Vincent lost his self-respect, his zest for life, his family ties that he cherished so dearly and most of all his feeling that he could create a livelihood for himself. We can join together to rebuild not only his home (a place to live) but also to rebuild the valuable respect he needs by knowing that without his asking for help … we wanted to help him.

Please contact me ASAP if you will be part of this project.

Thank you, Margaret, Jason, and all of the rest of you who today intervened in this crisis.

With much love and concern for my friend,
