Top Ten Reasons Your Chamber of Commerce Should Get Linked In

An update to a quick conversation I started on Linking Chambers of Commerce, 2 years ago. The original conversation is here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LinkingChambersOfCommerce/message/1

Top Ten Reasons Your Chamber of Commerce Should Get Linkedin
*************************************************
As a follow up to my earlier message in convincing your chamber of commerce to get Linkedin, I put together the list below. While this is a super-quick list put together in 20 minutes or so, I'd appreciate your feedback and any improvements you may wish to make.

Top Ten Reasons Your Chamber of Commerce Should Get Linkedin

Linkedin is like adding fiber to your chamber's diet:

1. Amplification of current members - Help your members interact with Linkedin's 21 Million business users

2. Worldwide reach - Does your community need to improve its reach with another country? Linkedin has members from over 100 countries.

3. Industry drill downs - Does your community need to strengthen its industries? Get linked in to the industries you need for your community

4. Assisted promotions - Get fellow chamber members to help introduce you to the right people all around the world right from where you are.

5. Accelerated introductions - The world is shrinking - competition is growing - your members need to meet people faster. Linkedin helps you accelerate your networking.

6. Enhance your chamber's business intelligence. More knowledge makes your chamber stronger, quicker, more accurate, and more valuable to your community.

7. Increase your chamber's strength. Linkedin is like fiber for your chamber's diet. A more strongly linked/knitted chamber equals stronger chamber members - members are encouraged by knowing who other chamber members know

8. Affordable membership - all your members can join free. Once Linkedin has proven its value to your chamber, members can affordably extend their reach over an appropriate period of time.

9, Encourage potential members to join your local chamber by enhanced online visibility. List your group in Linkedin's Group Directory. Members can be more effective chamber ambassadors by interacting with current and former colleagues.

10. Make a statement that your chamber is forward thinking. Coordinate important chamber meetings through Linkedin Groups.

News From The Journal of Commerce

American Society of Transportation and Logistics.(Brief article)

BYLINE: Laurie Hein Denham Executive director www.astl.org As oil prices hit historical highs, the increased transportation cost will have a significant impact on global trade and logistics service providers. Global supply chains are far more vulnerable to fluctuations in fuel cost, due to the long distances. For price-sensitive goods

American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier LLC.(Brief article)

BYLINE: Raymond P. Ebeling Chairman and president www.arrcnet.com The forecast for the industry in 2008 is cloudy, and potentially stormy. For several years, extremely strong growth in international trade has offset, and in some segments more than offset, what appeared to some to be industry overbuilding, leading to potential

RADAR SCREEN.(Sean T. Connaughton to go for Congressional representatives)(management of safety and security of container ports)

Connaughton rumored as candidate for US House Congressman Connaughton? It's matter of speculation among northern Virginia Republicans, but Maritime Administrator Sean T. Connaughton is being mentioned among a handful of possibles to run for the congressional seat currently held by Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va. The discussion is still in...

Thinking about 2058.(merger of Georgia ports and South Carolina ports )

BYLINE: BY JOSEPH BONNEY If you were given a blank sheet and told to design the most efficient South Atlantic port system possible, would you specify separate port authorities for the adjacent states of Georgia and South Carolina? Probably not, which is why a recent suggestion by Bill Stern, chairman of the South Carolina State Ports Authority, is so intriguing. Stern floated the once unimaginable idea of merging the two states' port authorities. He said a regional approach to port development would benefit both states' economies. It won't happen any time soon. Both states' governors quickly rejected the proposal,...

A warning for New York-New Jersey.(productivity management of container ports)

BYLINE: BY PETER TIRSCHWELL With Brian Maher selling his family terminal company last year and stepping back from day-to-day operations, James Devine is now the leading private-sector voice in New York-New Jersey, the third-largest U.S. container port. In accepting a 2007 Connie award in December from the Containerization and Inter-modal Institute, the head of the New York and Global container terminals took the opportunity to issue a blunt warning about the future of the port. "There is a lot of concern about the harbor and its future," Devine said. Devine's concerns can be summed up in one word: productivity....
